Our story began in a Rochester living room in 1956. In 1957, we became an official congregation – Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church. God blessed the diligent work of those early years with steady growth. Resurrection was able to buy and build a worship building at 407 14th Ave NW. In 1971, Resurrection began a Lutheran grade school. Resurrection Lutheran School has served children in Kindergarten through 8th grade (and preschool was later added).
God continued growing the church and school. In the early 80’s, a search for a new home began. In 1985, Resurrection Lutheran Church and School relocated to 4520 19th Ave NW. Building additions were made in 1991 (worship sanctuary) and 2002 (school classrooms). In 2010, we chose to reach out in a new area of Rochester. God blessed us to open our Life Campus at 4500 60th Ave NW.
Our biggest blessings are not measured by square footage, but by the souls God has brought to us and into our church family. We are each individually thankful that God has brought us into his family, and then also into the family of believers at Resurrection & Life Lutheran. God gives us the privilege of sharing his good news with many. We pray that that we get to share God’s Word with you, and that you’d join our church family, too.
Our name – Resurrection & Life – comes from Jesus’ words in John 11. A woman named Martha was grieving the death of her brother, Lazarus. Jesus said to Martha, “I am the Resurrection and the Life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
We do believe. We trust that Jesus died and rose and lives. Because Jesus rose, we live – now and eternally. We’d love to share this good news of Jesus Christ with you!
Our mission statement reads:
We, the men, women and children of Resurrection & Life Evangelical Lutheran Church, sharing a common faith in the good news of Jesus Christ, reach out to all people with God’s Word to win and nurture souls for Christ – all to the glory of God!
