Church Council Updates

Friend in Christ and of Resurrection & Life Lutheran,

As we approach the end of our 2017-2018 Fiscal Year (June 30th), I wanted to request your help to eliminate our projected financial shortfall.

On Sunday May 6th, the Congregation Voters approved a motion to launch a Shortfall Giving Appeal. Based on current giving and anticipated gifts, we are projecting a shortfall for this fiscal year of $58,201.

The goal of this appeal is to increase our Unified Budget Giving in order to finish the fiscal year without a shortfall. If we fall short on our offering goal, we’ll need to make adjustments to next year’s budget. Any additional funds received that go beyond our shortfall, would be placed into the Reserve Account (which is currently at $0.) Ideally, we would like to have our Reserve Account built up to cover one month of expenses without having to use our Line of Credit (a short-term loan.) The average monthly reserve would be $100,000.  The goal is to receive these funds before the end of the fiscal year, June 30th.

As you consider your giving through the end of the fiscal year, as well as your ongoing month to month giving, please ponder these words from St. Paul in 2 Corinthians 8:9.

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.”

Think of the riches you enjoy knowing Jesus as your Savior! Freedom from the guilt and punishment of your sins. Life with God now and forever. God’s promise to hear and answer your prayers and work all things for your good. Comfort and encouragement from God’s Word. The support of fellow Christians.

On top of all that, Jesus also gives us earthly wealth and asks us to use it to share his riches with others. Our gifts to the Unified Budget fund our mission to nurture those God has gathered into our church family and to reach out to others in the community, to share with them the riches of God’s grace.

We thank Jesus for the ministry he’s given us. It’s a privilege, responsibility and joy to be a part of his work. Thank you for your gifts that thank Jesus and support our ministry.

God’s blessings to you,
Daryl Schultz, Resurrection & Life Lutheran Church President
